”NEW PILLS FOR WORLD ILLS” – Art exhibition

324

Opening: Saturday, September 10 · 6:00pm – 8:00pm
Location: Kääntöpaikka   Intiankatu 1   Helsinki, Finland

What if you could fix world problems by simply taking a pill?

This exhibition showcases fictitious medical advertisements designed in workshops conducted as part of Lisa Erdman’s doctoral research, ”Art, Humor and Advertising as a Tool for Political Dialogue”. In the workshops, participants envision new (fictitious) medications that would ’cure’ political and social problems in Finland. The outcome results in a series of handmade, collage-style, (oftentimes satirical) pharmaceutical advertisements and medical concepts.

Erdman’s artistic research is being conducted through Aalto University School of Art and Design, Department of Art and Media Pori. Using performance and graphic design media, her research themes investigate the dynamics of medicalization in society, and the possibility of building a framework for public dialogue and social change through the medium of pharmaceutical language.
